Essential Estate & Financial Planning Documents for Your Children
As parents, we always have our children’s best interests at the forefront of our minds. However, many might take for granted the authority we have had as a parent for the last 18 years. How often have you called the bank on the student account you set up for them in high school? Or called the pediatrician to discuss an issue?
Once your child turns 18, nothing changes…except that EVERYTHING changes. Because once your child turns 18 (19 in Alabama), they are legally an adult.
So if you’ve sent your child off to college this year, here is a brief outline of what you need to do once your child is legally an adult:
1. Power of Attorney
2. Advance Directive
3. Liability/Auto Insurance
4. Renter’s Insurance
5. Life Insurance
6. Last Will and Testament
Head to this blog post for more details from our Estate Planning expert Brad Coppedge about each of these documents.
Realtor Safety CE Class
The firm is proud to have debuted our new CE class on Realtor Safety, which was created after requests from our partners. We have taught this class for RE/MAX T&C Alpharetta, RE/MAX T&C Blueridge and Brock Built, as well as a class in Brookhaven for a group of Realtors from different brokerages around Atlanta. The feedback has been incredibly positive! Thanks to Managing Partner Vanessa Goggans, Of Counsel Michelle Valente Lee and Associate Tiffiny Wolf for teaching these important classes!
September was Realtor Safety Month, but we care about Realtor safety year round, so here are some tips to help ensure you are as safe as possible in the field:
- Familiarize yourself with the neighborhoods you work with, because streets and landmarks can look different at various times of day.
- Only show vacant properties during the daytime in case there is no electrical working on site. Better visibility will help you catch any safety hazards the house may have.
- Keep personal information private. You can build relationships with clients without giving out information about where you live or family details.
If you would like us to bring this class to your organization reach out to Kim Lewis ([email protected]).
St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway
A very special closing photo for the 2023 St. Jude Dream Home that was built and donated by our builder client The Providence Group – Premier Atlanta Home Builder. Congratulations to Dixie Smith on your new home!
The St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway was created in 1991 by Dr. Donald Mack and is one of the largest fundraising programs for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. This year was the first ever Dream Home Giveaway in Atlanta and over $1.5 million was raised. Every dollar helps ensure families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food.
